The "Kate" Hat was blocked using a crown and brim block from Highland Hatblocks. I used navy blue sinamay as the base covered in black Chantilly lace. It is embellished with a black grosgrain ribbon and silk flowers, and features a black grosgrain band on the inside of the crown. The crown is asymmetrical and should be worn with a slight tilt to the right.
This hat is elegant and sophisticated. It would be perfectly paired with a navy or black suit dress and stilettos.
I begin to create this hat at the 2024 Millinery Meet-Up at Arrowmont School for the Arts in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. This piece was inspired by Kate Middleton, Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales, and the techniques I learned from one of my favorite milliners, Edwina Ibbotson.
