Happy Fall! If you are new to my newsletter, Welcome! I'm Kelly Jo Schultz, a Minnesota born milliner. I began making handsewn newsboy style caps 20 years ago. In 2011, I was inspired to start making fascinators after watching the Royal Wedding of Kate & William. Since then, I have made hundreds of hats and fascinators. I consider myself self-taught, but have added new techniques these past 5 years after taking classes from Master Milliners, both online and in-person. I would love to be your personal milliner! I just finished a custom fascinator that is on its way to Bemidji, Minnesota while another custom order is boxed ans headed to Maryland as we speak. I absolutely love making custom millinery pieces and shipping them off to their new owners! I've also been busy doing alterations on two bridesmaid dresses. Thankfully, wedding season has tapered off for a while. Fall has finally arrived here in Minnesota & those beautifully colored leaves are so inspiring! 🍂 I love all the fall colors & just blocked a few wool felt hats in burnt orange and olive green.

It's been a busy September! I am still working on 4 custom orders for October, plus last minute Mother of the Groom dress alterations for a high school girl friend whose son is getting married this weekend in Nebraska. Phew! And September is officially halfway over. I'm getting ready to whip up some fun Halloween headpieces soon! Hello hat lovers! My best friend's daughter got married this past weekend. Congrats Paige & Jared! I made 2 fascinators to match my dress for the wedding & ended up wearing both. I also did Paige's wedding dress alterations along with the bustle for her dress. I'm currently working on four custom millinery orders due in October. It's been a busy year so far! I'll soon be working on a holiday collection for Christmas & New Years. Look for new additions to my Latchet shop in the coming weeks. #wearmorehats

Thank you to everyone who came out to the 36th Polo Classic this past Sunday! It was so amazing seeing all my favorite people in one place, including my friend Susan (left in photo above) who introduced me to The Polo Classic in 2019. It was the perfect day for hats, horses, a divot stomp and a polo match! Plus it was for a very good cause: This Old Horse https://www.thisoldhorse.org/. Less than 2 weeks until my favorite event -- The Polo Classic! If you've never been to this event in Maple Plain, you should attend on August 3rd! It's the biggest hat wearing event of the year here in MN, plus you'll get to watch an exciting polo match and stomp some divets, just like Pretty Woman. Need a hat for the big day? My sewing work includes wedding & bridesmaid dresses, along with hemming men's & women's pants. Hello Friends! I spent part of the 4th of July holiday blocking hats with my millinery friend Amy Jo on her porch overlooking her gardens in beautiful Luck, Wisconsin. It was the most perfect day! She will be joining me at this year's Polo Classic on August 3rd. I'm also working on a mini millinery collection made with navy blue & white polka dot sinamay and pink vintage straw.
